Shopmonkey is one of the larger shop management platforms, and it publishes both its plan prices and the feature differences between them, which makes the cost question answerable in detail. Every figure below comes from shopmonkey.io/pricing as of September 2026.
How much does Shopmonkey cost per month?
| Plan | Paid monthly | On the annual plan | Positioned for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $239/month | $215/month | Shops simplifying day-to-day work and wanting a clear view of the business |
| Clever | $399/month | $359/month | Growing shops managing more work and more inventory |
| Genius | $499/month | $449/month | Shops optimizing the whole business, including marketing follow-up |
| Multi-Shop | Custom | Custom | Multi-location businesses standardizing across locations |
The page advertises “save up to 10% with annual pricing,” and the published rates match that: Basic drops by $24 a month, Clever by $40 and Genius by $50 when you pay annually.
What Shopmonkey includes on every plan
The Basic tier publishes this list, and the comparison table shows the same features carried into every higher tier:
- Unlimited 2-way SMS and email, with templates and a built-in phone number
- Unlimited estimates, invoices and digital authorizations, with e-signatures
- Calendar and automated appointment reminders
- Digital vehicle inspections
- Parts lookup and ordering, with PartsTech, RepairLink and Nexpart
- CARFAX integration
- Integrated payments, in-person and online, with Apple Pay and Google Pay
- Access to 30+ built-in reports
- Mobile app for iOS and Android
- API and webhooks
The company also states that more than 8,000 shops run on the platform, a marketing claim worth reading as scale rather than as proof of fit.
What changes as you move up the tiers
The tier differences are specific, and several of them are the ones a growing shop notices first:
- Digital vehicle inspections. Basic carries 2 DVI templates; Clever and above include unlimited digital vehicle inspections.
- Inventory and workflow. Customizable workflow, purchase orders, time clock tracking, inventory management and bulk inventory adjustments all start at Clever.
- Parts and labor reference. MOTOR parts and labor, ALLDATA integration, and quick reference guides start at Clever. MOTOR diagrams and procedures start at Genius.
- Marketing and follow-up. Coupons manager, automated estimate follow-ups, inactive work orders and a Google reviews manager start at Genius.
- Accounting. QuickBooks Online integration starts at Clever; QuickBooks Desktop carries an additional fee.
- Multi-location reporting. Reserved for Multi-Shop, along with dedicated account management, custom training and a custom implementation plan.
The practical consequence: a shop that expects repair information and purchase orders inside the ticket is not buying Basic, whatever the entry price says. Clever is the functional floor for that shop, and its list price is $399 a month, not $239.
User licenses: what growing the shop costs
Shopmonkey's plan prices include a set number of user licenses rather than unlimited users:
| Plan | Included licenses | Each additional license |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 3 | +$20/month |
| Clever | 4 | +$20/month |
| Genius | 5 | +$20/month |
| Multi-Shop | Call for pricing | Call for pricing |
A $20 monthly license is not a large number on its own, but a transmission shop can easily have eight or more people who need a login: reception, the diagnostician, the parts counter, two builders, the R&R technician, the QC inspector and whoever handles the books. Moving from Genius's 5 included licenses to 8 users adds $60 a month, which is real but small; the more important question is whether the fifth license forces a tier upgrade. Going from Clever at $399 to Genius at $499 to obtain one more included license costs $100 a month, not $20 — so count your logins before you pick the tier.
Add-ons and one-time fees that change the total
Beyond the plans, Shopmonkey publishes these prices:
| Add-on or fee | Paid monthly | On the annual plan |
|---|---|---|
| CRM Essentials (reviews, campaigns, online booking) | $349/month | $314/month |
| Bookkeeping (a dedicated bookkeeper) | $349/month | $314/month |
| Accounting (built-in bookkeeping software) | $99/month | $89/month |
| Heavy Duty (Class 4–8 lookups and procedures) | Custom pricing | Custom pricing |
| Data migration | One-time $500 fee | One-time $500 fee |
| Card reader hardware | $299 plus $10/month per device | Same |
| Cellular reader connection | $10/month per device | Same |
| QuickBooks Desktop integration | Additional fee | Additional fee |
Payments pricing is quoted rather than published: online fees, in-person fees and instant payouts are all listed as “call for pricing,” so the transaction cost is a separate negotiation from the subscription. Data migration assistance is listed as included on every tier, with the asterisk that a one-time $500 fee applies.
The CRM Essentials add-on deserves the same scrutiny as Tekmetric's marketing add-on: at $349 a month it costs more than the Basic plan, so it belongs in the “do we need a marketing program” column rather than the “included” column. A business-to-business transmission shop whose work comes from other shops, dealers and fleets may get very little from campaigns and online booking aimed at retail car owners.
Illustrative totals for three shop shapes
The arithmetic below is illustrative: it uses published list prices, assumes no promotional rate and excludes taxes and payment processing fees.
| Shop shape | Configuration | Illustrative monthly total |
|---|---|---|
| One location, 3 users, workflow basics | Basic, paid monthly | $239 |
| One location, 3 users, paying annually | Basic on the annual plan | $215 |
| One location, 5 users needing parts and repair info | Clever, paid monthly, plus 1 extra user | $399 + $20 = $419 |
| One location, 8 users, wanting marketing follow-up | Genius, paid monthly, plus 3 extra users | $499 + $60 = $559 |
| One location, 8 users, paying annually, with a CRM program | Genius on the annual plan plus CRM Essentials | $449 + $314 + $60 = $823 |
The last row is the one to study. A single-location shop that buys the mid-tier plan, three extra licenses and a CRM add-on can be paying more per month than the cost of two full-time software budgets elsewhere in this market, and that is before payment processing.
What a transmission shop should test on a Shopmonkey trial
Shopmonkey is built for general repair and tire work at scale, so the tier ladder answers a different set of questions than a rebuild shop asks. Run these tests before deciding:
- Purchase orders, core charges and returns. Purchase orders start at Clever. Build a job with a part that carries a core charge, receive it, return the core, and find where the credit lands.
- Bench versus R&R time. Time clock tracking starts at Clever; check whether two clocks on one job can represent in-car and bench work separately.
- Non-inventory and shipped sales. In a public r/serviceadvisors thread, a shop moving into Tekmetric described trouble with parts it ships to customers and editable shipping lines on a repair order. Ask Shopmonkey to demonstrate the same workflow — a parts-only sale that ships — rather than assuming either platform handles it.
- Heavy duty. If the shop also services Class 4–8 trucks, the Heavy Duty add-on is custom-priced and worth quoting early.
- The comeback. Close a job, reopen it as a warranty comeback, and see whether the original history stays attached and whether rework hours are visible.
- Repair information. ALLDATA integration starts at Clever, MOTOR diagrams at Genius. Confirm in the demo which screens the information is reachable from, and budget the repair-information subscription as a separate cost.
How Shopmonkey pricing compares
| Product | Published entry price, September 2026 | Pricing meter |
|---|---|---|
| ARI | $39.99/month Pro; $59.99/month Pro Plus | Flat, unlimited users, no contract |
| BayStacker | $149/month Intelligence; $499/month Full OS, per location | Per location, 30-day trial, 1,000 analysis runs a month |
| AutoLeap | $179/month Essentials billed annually, $199 monthly | Flat per shop with an annual discount |
| Tekmetric | $199/month Start, $179 on the annual plan | Flat per shop, unlimited users and repair orders |
| Shopmonkey | $239/month Basic, $215 on the annual plan | Flat per shop with 3–5 included users, then $20 per user |
| Shop-Ware | $279/month Startup, $251 on the annual plan | Flat per location, unlimited users |
Compared with its closest competitors, Shopmonkey's entry price is the highest of the published entries and its user model is the only one in the group that meters logins. What it buys is breadth: payments, parts ordering, CARFAX, API access and mobile apps sit on the lowest tier, and multi-shop reporting is a real product rather than a feature flag.
For a rebuild shop, the decision usually turns on something the price table cannot show: whether the record can hold a diagnosis, a unit and a comeback. That comparison is set out in the best transmission shop software guide and in the Tekmetric alternatives post, while the transmission shop software overview covers what a diagnosis-first workflow expects from any system. If you are weighing the two biggest names directly, Tekmetric's own plan and add-on prices are the other half of this comparison.
The short version
For one location, Shopmonkey realistically means Clever at $399 a month, or $359 on the annual plan, because that is the tier where purchase orders, inventory, time clocks, ALLDATA integration and QuickBooks Online begin. Basic at $239/$215 is a genuine product, but it is aimed at shops whose day is estimates, invoices, inspections and payments.
Add $20 a month for every login beyond the included licenses, budget the one-time $500 migration fee, get the payment processing rates in writing, and decide deliberately whether the $349 CRM add-on applies to the way your customers actually find you.
Common questions
How much does Shopmonkey cost?
Shopmonkey publishes four tiers: Basic at $239 per month or $215 per month billed annually, Clever at $399 or $359 annually, Genius at $499 or $449 annually, and Multi-Shop at custom pricing. The page advertises savings of up to 10% with annual billing. Add-ons include CRM Essentials at $349 per month, Bookkeeping at $349, Accounting at $99, and a custom-priced Heavy Duty package.
How many users does Shopmonkey include?
Basic includes 3 user licenses, Clever includes 4 and Genius includes 5. Each additional user license costs $20 per month on all three plans, and Multi-Shop user licensing is quoted. If the fifth or sixth login you hire would push you into a higher tier, that upgrade costs far more than the $20 license, so count the people who need access before choosing a plan.
Are there setup fees with Shopmonkey?
Data migration assistance is listed as included on every tier, but the pricing table adds a footnote that a one-time $500 data migration fee applies. Card reader hardware is $299 plus $10 per month per device, and a cellular connection for a reader is $10 per month per device. The pricing page also lists QuickBooks Desktop integration as carrying an additional fee.
Can I cancel Shopmonkey anytime?
Shopmonkey lists cancellation as one of the questions its pricing page answers, with the answer pointing to its Help Center rather than appearing on the pricing page itself, so the notice period and any refund rules are not published where plan prices are. Get the cancellation, downgrade and data-export terms in writing in your own order form before you commit to a tier.
What is the difference between the Basic and Clever plans?
Clever adds the operational half of the product: customizable workflow, purchase orders, time clock tracking, inventory management, bulk inventory adjustments, MOTOR parts and labor, ALLDATA integration, quick reference guides and QuickBooks Online integration, plus unlimited digital vehicle inspections instead of two templates. Genuine adds marketing follow-up tools such as automated estimate follow-ups, a coupons manager and a Google reviews manager, plus MOTOR diagrams and procedures.
Does Shopmonkey work for heavy-duty or transmission shops?
Shopmonkey sells a Heavy Duty add-on for Class 4–8 lookups and procedures, but its price is quoted rather than published. For transmission and powertrain work specifically, the published plan features are written around general repair and maintenance, so test the unit-level record directly: two labor clocks on one job, a core charge from purchase order through credit, and a comeback that reopens the original work order.
