BayStacker at a glance

  • What it is: diagnosis-first auto repair shop management software for transmission and powertrain work. The complaint, the decoded VIN and the first finding become one diagnosis case; Analysis A returns a ranked hypothesis with the next test and the rework risk, a draft until a person confirms it; the work order, parts, build and invoice read from that case.
  • What it costs: Intelligence $149 or Full OS $499 per location per month, billed monthly, with a 30-day free trial and 1,000 analysis runs a month. There is no per-user charge and no annual contract; a plan is cancelled from the billing page.
  • Who it is for: transmission and rebuild shops, fleet powertrain operations, multi-location groups, and general repair shops with a transmission bay.
  • What it does not do: it has no labor guide, no integrated supplier parts ordering, no two-way texting or marketing suite, and it does not process card payments — payments are recorded on the invoice.
  • Moving in: history comes in as a CSV file, one row per past repair, after a dry run reports what would be imported, skipped or refused. There is no direct import from Tekmetric or any other vendor.
  • Moving out: every record can be exported at any time as a zip of CSV files.

Who should switch, and who should stay

BayStacker fits if

  • The shop rebuilds or R&Rs transmissions and the comeback, not the upsell, is what costs it.
  • A diagnosis should be written down with its evidence before parts are ordered.
  • The invoice should wait for the road test and the code recheck.
  • The shop wants a price per location without migration or integration fees on the pricing page.

Stay on Shop-Ware if

  • Parts margin and the parts catalog drive the shop's profit.
  • Customers approve work from a polished inspection on their phone.
  • Service writers text customers all day.
  • The labor guide is how the shop quotes.

Moving from Shop-Ware

There is no Shop-Ware import. History comes in through the CSV import every shop uses:

  1. Export your repair history from Shop-Ware to a spreadsheet file. We help with the export.
  2. In BayStacker, open Integrations, choose the location, and choose the CSV file — one row per past repair, matched by column heading.
  3. Check the import runs a dry run and reports what would be imported, skipped or refused. Nothing is written.
  4. Import writes the rows; a second run after a partial failure picks up where it stopped.

Common questions

What is a good Shop-Ware alternative?

For a general repair shop, Tekmetric, Shopmonkey and AutoLeap are the like-for-like alternatives, each with a labor guide, texting and payments. For a transmission shop that wants the diagnosis on the record and the invoice held until verification passes, BayStacker is the diagnosis-first alternative — without a labor guide, parts catalog, texting or card processing.

How much does Shop-Ware cost?

Shop-Ware publishes Startup at $279, Pro at $389, Master at $499 and Ultimate+ at $999 a month, or $251, $350, $449 and $899 on annual billing, with unlimited users. Its page notes that data migration fees may apply, an accounting link integration fee applies and payment transaction fees apply (read 27 September 2026).

Is BayStacker cheaper than Shop-Ware?

BayStacker Intelligence is $149 and Full OS is $499 per location per month, against Shop-Ware's $279 Startup and $499 Master. Neither charges per user. The products are built for different work, so compare what each includes.

Can I move from Shop-Ware to BayStacker without losing history?

Yes, as a CSV file. There is no direct Shop-Ware import; export the history, then bring it in through the CSV import, which runs a dry run and reports what would be imported, skipped or refused before anything is written. Keep Shop-Ware readable for a month so a disputed job can still be checked.

Run Analysis A on the unit that came back.

Try it on your own last rework: the complaint, the decoded VIN, the ranked hypothesis and the rework risk, on a case you can read.
